One of them was overwhelmed by the beating and started foaming that again caused panic among the mob, who claimed that they were rectifyng that uncalled for behaviour of some touts.

John Okindo who is a conductor of a matatu plying Kisii-Keroka route condemned the behaviour of the touts pulling and even abusing customers whenever they defy boarding their vehicles.

He said they cannot condone such behaviours since, according to him, they uphold values and dignity among themselves when dealing with their ‘clients’.

“We want sanity in our matatu business and we will not want someone to taint our name by either abusing or pulling customers simply because they do not feel like boarding their vehicles. That is against the passenger rights and I condemn it on a serious note,” said Okindo.

Edward Kebati, a passenger who was injured by the scrambling touts narrated the scenario that he was pulled a part by four men who wanted him to board their respective matatus before threwing him on the ground, injuring his knees and head.

The two touts identified as Jonh Okemwa and Justine Ongeri were not lucky to escape like their two counterparts who ran away after sensing the mob’s anger.

They were rescued by the police and held at Kisii Central Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court tomorrow to answer charges of assault.
