John Njagi Kibuti was charged that on March 7 this year with others who were not before the court, he stole 130 litres of diesel valued at 134,365 shillings property of the Shengli Construction Company.

Appearing before Thika resident Magistrate Esther Mburu, the accused is said to have siphoned the fuel from tractors that were transporting building materials at around 9pm when everybody else had left the construction site.

Among the key witnesses was a security guard who told the court how on the material date he spotted the accused person in the company and five others siphoning the fuel and ferrying the diesel in plastic Jerri cans to a nearby bush.

He then alerted the supervisor from his cell phone who immediately alerted the Juja police officers who found the accused person in the act.

The accused pleaded guilty and asked for leniency from the court saying that he was a first time offender and a sole bread winner in his family.

Passing judgement, the magistrate said that the accused person was giving Kenyan workers a bad name to the foreign building construction company.

He was jailed for three years in jail without the option of a fine.
