A man in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha committed suicide after his friends allegedly conned him over Sh300,000.
The body of the man was found hanging in his house by neighbours who later informed the police about the incident.
His neighbour, Paul Kamau, said the man had saved the cash to buy a piece of land but was conned after being told to let it be doubled.
After the friends failed to deliver the amount in double, he sought police help.
"The friends have been threatening him of unspecified action since he reported the incident and we do not know what made him commit suicide at such an early age," Kamau told Radio Jambo.
He said the man had been selling sand and lived a quiet life.
"We call on police to investigate the matter and bring to book the so-called friends who we think contributed to the suicide," Kamau said.
Mai Mahiu OCS Ezra Sambu confirmed the incident saying the body of the late had been picked and taken to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
Sambu said investigations into the incident have begun calling on people to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of the deceased's friends.
