The traders said they pay daily tax which the County should use to pay cleaners working at the toilets.

"We pay monthly tax of over Sh2 million but we are being charged Sh10 - 30 whenever we visit toilets. When we questioned the workers they claimed that the money will be used to pay their salaries. As traders, we have resolved to stop paying taxes until the county stops charging toilet fee," said John Meseria, a trader.

Gladys Okeyo said despite them paying toilet fee and daily revenue to the County, the state of toilets in the market is poor.

"The  toilets at the markets are being operated by brokers working at the county. There is no water at the toilets and traders are being forced to use water gallons to clean up after using the toilets. Governor Ongwae should look into the matter before it gets out of hand because we will not continue paying daily revenue to the County which offers poor services," she said.

The traders were speaking on Thursday at the market.
