Traders in the Kibera slums have complained that they are facing hard economic times something they are attributing this to lack of customers to buy their wares.
One of the traders, Veronica Kimasu, sells sweet potatoes at DC market in Kibera. She says that traders who sell farm produce are facing difficult times in their business since this month started. Ms. Kimasu said that they have been making losses due to the spoiling of their products they are selling following a shortage in the number of customers.
''We have been making losses since early January. A lot of sweet potatoes have gotten spoiled thus leading to us making huge losses. Traders who have benefited are those selling school uniforms, books, pens and school shoes," said Dolpine Mogaka, another trader.
Residents have also expressed their feelings saying this month is going to end leaving them broke with hunger.
''Life has become harder due to the hard economic times. Providing food to our families has become a big burden this month. It is not very easy being a parent paying school fees and provide food for your family in such a country with bad and poor economic status,'' said Everline Nzioki, a resident.
