Traders in Kegogi have applauded the County government of Kisii for embarking on a major facelift of their market.
According to the traders carrying out business in the market had become tough and they have been undergoing numerous losses over a long period.
Austine Onyambu a trader in the market said they now want the contractor to ensure the facelift is completed on time.
“Like in other markets we don’t want to incur more losses during the construction, therefore it would be good for them to keep their deadline,” he added.
This comes barely an hour after the CEC for Roads and Public Works Fredrick Omwoyo launched the upgrading of the market centre to provide necessary infrastructure that will promote a 24-hour economy in market areas.
The CEC said Kegogi Market in Kegogi ward is among the markets that will benefit from the programme that involves installation of backstreet roads, streetlights, water points, washrooms and other related amenities.
“We will ensure that traders have the best facilities to help them develop and improve on trade within the area and even sell more to other outside markets,” said Omwoyo.
Market Chairman, Yuvinalis Kerauma thanked the County Government for planning the upgrade of the market and providing better facilities to the traders.
