Traders in Mandera County have appealed for a quick solution to the political standoff between governor Ali Roba and MCAs.
Abdirahim Sheikh Issack, branch vice chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said political situation in the county is adversely affecting businesses.
"We regret the lift between the county executive and the legislative arm that has led to economic turbulence in Mandera," he said.
Issack noted that the business community comprising 70 percent of the total population in the county is suffering due to the harsh economic situation.
"The county government failed to pay contractors and suppliers despite work done and services delivered. This hit our business activities," he added.
According to him, several businesses have been closed down or are operating poorly after doing business with the county government that never paid.
He challenged the governor and MCAs to end the political wrangles and accord each other respect for the sake of development in the county.
Issack said the governor should nominate competent and skilled people who will focus on development.
On Thursday last week, the MCAs rejected a list of 10 nominees forwarded by governor Roba on grounds that they had integrity issues.
