Scores of traders were on Monday barred from erecting stalls a long Naivasha District Hospital fence by the area sub-county administration and the hospitals management.
This comes as Naivasha sub-county deputy commissioner, Robert Ndung’u distances himself from any involvement in allocation of stalls along the hospital's fence.
“My office has not allocated any plot to traders along the Naivasha District Hospital as alleged by traders,” said Ndung’u.
Ndung’u was responding to allegations by traders that the sub-county was involved in allocation of the stalls.
A number of traders had started to clear bushes for construction of stalls along the hospital's fence.
Ndung’u said that the construction would be halted for security reasons.
“Sprouting of such structures will make sites for criminals,” said Ndung’u.
He said that the sub-county administration has been securing security in all government premises.
“The government is mandated in ensuring security in all government premises and the intended construction of stalls will not be allowed,” said Ndungu.
The deputy commissioner’s order was supported by the hospital's management where the medical in -charge of the hospital, Dr Joseph Mburu said that no allocation was granted to traders.
“The hospital's management was not involved in the allocation of stalls,” said Mburu.
Mburu added, “We want to make the area around the hospital to be free from criminals.”
He however urged the trades to work with sub-county administration in allocation of stalls away from the hospital's premises.
