According to Kisii traders engaged in the maize selling business, they were forced to lower maize prices as a move to attract customers.

“Maize imports from Uganda and Tanzania has affected our business. We are now forced to lower our prices so as we don't loose customers,” said Mary Morikwa.

She requested the Government to intervene and stop foreign traders from bringing their maize into the country.

"Importation of maize should be regulated. We even suspect they don't pay taxes because they sell the maize cheaply," he added.

However, traders who own maize stores said business was booming for them.

"As we talk my store is full because of traders who brought in maize from Uganda and Tanzania," said William Riang'a who owns a store.
