Hawkers boycotting to pay daily taxes in Uasin Gishu County have been put on notice.
Daniel Chemno, County's Deputy governor on Sunday said revenue collection in the county was low because some hawkers have been boycotting paying taxes.
“Hawkers who don’t pay revenue are enemies of the county’s growth. Hawkers owe the county about Sh35 million and this may hinder the county growth in terms of development. I am urging hawkers across the county to ensure they pay daily taxes to the county revenue collecting officers,” he said.
According to Chemno, hawkers who don’t pay taxes will not be spared.
“We will not allow anyone to run business illegally in the county. Revenues should be paid to ease operations in the county,” he stated.
He asked officers in charge of revenue collection not to favour anyone when collecting revenue.
“Tax collectors should not favour anyone including their relatives when collecting daily taxes. We need more money to run the county especially in launching development projects in the region,” said Chemno.
