Speaking to journalists at Mlolongo town on Thursday morning, the businessmen said the project's current plan would adversely affect their businesses since it proposed to relocate truck parking next to Mombasa Cement.

They said this would adversely affect their businesses since they mostly relied on the truck operators as their most frequent and targeted clients.

The traders further argued that relocating the parking would completely kill the Hospitality industry in the town given that bars, restaurants, pubs and hotels are apparently homes of the truck operators.

They claimed the Machakos County Government's public toilet recently commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta would also be demolished if the plan was implemented.

"Why implement the plan and get rid of an exclusive project that has consumed lots of public funds and commissioned by the president himself?" asked a trader.

They proposed that the parking be retained where they are apparently or moved not far from the town centre in a bid of putting their interests into consideration.

According to the traders, moving away the parking meant hundreds of Kenyans would lose jobs depriving them of their livelihoods.

They said though they were in support of the dual carriage highway project, their livelihoods and those of who depend on them had to be put into consideration before executing the project.
