Nairobi's business community has called on Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero to look into their plight as they are burdened with poor services, harassment from the Nairobi County askaris and the high taxes imposed on them.
Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi, Nairobi Business Membership Organisation lamented on the way registered traders are forced to carry out their daily business in unbearable conditions.
Supported by the Kenya Manufacturers' Association (Kam), Kidero was called upon to act quickly and restore good working environments for the traders.
Among the cries depicted by KAM include congested and dirty market areas; poor drainage and sewerage facilities; water rationing, traffic menace and the encroaching of their areas by illegal structures constructed by hawkers.
The traders called on the expulsion of hawkers in the Central Business District (CBD) be upheld as this will reduce encroachment of their working space.
"Conducting business in Nairobi has become crucial making survival a nightmare," said KAM's head of the operation, Dalmas Okendo.
However, Kidero assured the traders he will look into their plight and restore sanity in their areas of work. He cited lack of enough personnel, corruption and finances as the main things affecting his service delivery.
