Traders along the Kisumu-Eldoret Highway at Kaptildil on Tuesday clashed with PSV operators following an NTSA crackdown.
The operators had sort to find an escape route to evade the NTSA and police officers at Kaptildil.
The operators had a rough time convincing the traders to allow them to pass the Kaptildil route to join the main road at approximately, 300m from the main road.
The traders blocked the road and demanded they adhere to traffic rules.
They turned back the operators who were desperate for the route for fear of the long hand of the law in the hands of NTSA officials.
At the end, each PSV vehicle had to part with Sh150 to be allowed to continue with the journey.
Private vehicles too were not spared in the fracas which lasted for almost three hours with passengers exerting pressure on the PSV drivers.
“We have stayed here for more than 2 hours. We are even afraid that the day’s activities will be interfered with. My boss expects me to be at work by eleven and I am already 2 hours late. I wonder why they don’t just observe all the road rules to avoid brushing shoulders with the laws,” said Jeff Omollo.
"These PSV operators want to interfere with our daily routines, our animals, carts among other activities. This should be a lesson to them to ensure they follow the rules of the road to minimize cases of accidents. I wish those who were in charge would not allow them,” said Gloria Jerop a resident of Kaptildil.
