Confirming the incident, Kokoto Sub Chief Samuel Njoroge said more than twenty kiosks were destroyed by the fire that started at around 1am.

“We have not yet established the cause of the fire but we are investigating,” said Njoroge.

Njoroge said security guards and residents living near the business centre helped put off the inferno that was threatening to spread the entire business centre.

Jacklyn Muthoni, a trader who was among those whose kiosks were destroyed, said she has suffered a loss of over Sh 10, 000 in the incident.

“I was informed by a colleague who lives within the business centre on phone at around 3am about the fire. When I came over at 6am, I found my kiosk completely destroyed. I am now stranded as I cannot operate from the open ground,” said Muthoni.

The sub chief has appealed to residents to be wary in handling of fire objects during this dry season to avoid fire accidents.
