Reports indicate the fire was caused by an electric fault within the market stalls.

No one was injured during the fire as most of the workers had closed their business.

Furniture and clothes stores were the most affected in the Wednesday night inferno.

One of the traders, Joseph Opondo noted that the fire burnt furniture approximated to be worth a million shillings.

We do not know what is really causing these fires because the line of stalls that was affected does not have hotels and not all the stalls have electricity,” said Opondo as quoted by Standard.

Another trader, Dancun Otieno noted that the fire could not have happened if the county government had invested in preventive measures.

“There is a lot that has not been done. With the frequency of the fires, the market needs water points and even a fire engine,” he told the Standard.
