Traders at Rurii market in Ol Kalou town are counting losses following a fire that destroyed their business premises on Sunday.
The fire razed down hotels, butcheries, shops and boutiques.
A trader Wairimu Muchai said she lost goods valued at Sh100,000 following the inferno.
"I was visiting my sick father when I received a call from a friend informing me of the fire", said Ms Muchai.
Another trader Joseph Theuri said efforts to fight the first spreading fire were futile.
Area chief Simon Muita said the fir broke from a hotel at around 3 am.
"Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of fire. Let us give the police ample time to do their work", chief Simon said.
