Traders in Homa Bay town market, Homa Bay county, are counting losses after the market was burnt down, Saturday, at around 12.30am.
The fire left millions of property destroyed, as its cause remain unknown.
According to a witness, Charles Juma, efforts to put out the fire using twigs bore no fruit since it was spreading quickly.
"It escalated spontaneously to other shops," Juma said.
Area OCPD Esau Ochorokodi confirmed there were no casualties.
He added the affected traders had been asked to record statements with the police.
Homa Bay Giant Traders Association secretary, Jack Nyambega, asked police to speed up investigations in to the incident.
