The traders led by Augustine Morira said they have been forced to close their businesses because officials they appointed to manage the market had failed to do so appropriately.

"The officials that we elected as our leaders have turned against us and are now working with our enemies. They are part of the people who are frustrating us," he said.

According to him, despite them paying revenue to the county government no one had come to their aid.

Elizabeth Juma, another trader said cleaners at the market have been harassing them.

"The cleaners are not doing their job as required and if you question that you will be getting litter thrown in your working station. We are wondering why the county government is so silent on this matter," he said.

She accused market officials of remaining silent as the situation worsened.

"We empowered a few individuals instead of them taking care of us they now work with our enemies. Surely, is this how things should be?" she posed.

The traders were speaking on Tuesday afternoon in the market.
