A section of traders operating from Laini Saba market are in fear following the ongoing rains.

The traders’ are worried that the rains might lead to the spoiling of their food produce due to the mud in the market since they do not operate from the stalls.

The traders’ claim that the shortage of business stalls in the market is causing them huge losses as customers shy away from buying dirty contaminated onions, tomatoes, vegetables among other items they sell in the market.

Speaking at Laini Saba market on Thursday morning, the traders’ lamented about the difficulties they are going through since the customers have kept off buying from them since they lack stalls.

“It’s very difficult for us to get customers since most of them now prefer buying goods from stalls of which we do not have. Customers claim that products sold on bear grounds are easily contaminated with diseases hence they have opted to buy from stalls,” said Rosa Otieno, a trader.

"The market authorities have been promising to build stalls for us but till today, nothing has been done. During rainy seasons, we suffer losses since it rains heavily getting and even getting a single customer becomes very hard as many of them rush to buy from traders with stalls,’’ said Catherine Omondi, another trader.

The traders’ have now called upon the county government to intervene and construct them stalls for easy operation of their businesses in the market for the economic growth of the country.
