Traders operating at Magombo market have raised alarm over increased fire incidents at the market.

The traders now want police officers to investigate and arrest culprits who may be causing fires intentionally.

“We are calling on Isaiah Nakoru to ensure police have investigated the incidents of fires and arrest those involved in starting fires. Traders have lost property worth over Sh1 million,” said Erick Omwamba, a trader.

Verah Moraa said they suspect hired goons are the ones starting fires to frustrate traders.

“Some cartels who don’t want to see us going on with our businesses in the market are the ones hiring goons to set our stalls, kiosks and stores on fire. We want justice to be done because, in two separate incidents, traders have lost a lot of property,” she said.

This comes after on Monday night, over 5 kiosks were razed down by the fire in the market.

Cause of the fire is yet to be established.
