Traders in Kibera who sell household items have a reason to smile as this month approaches its end since they have been making huge profits from their daily business.
One of the traders, John Ontita, who operates around the Karanja Village in Kibera, said he has enjoyed the profits from his 'Malimali' business especially from the selling of plates, basins, cups, jugs, spoons and sandals.
''Parents have bought basins, cups and plates for their children to use while in school. Previously, a basin cost sh100 but now costs sh150. A plate cost sh30 and now costs sh50. A large cup cost sh20 but now costs sh40 and a pair of slippers cost sh80 and now costs sh120. This is due to the increase in the number of customers buying the items,'' he said.
Ontita says that the increase in the number of customers has seen him benefit greatly in this tough month. He expects to reap even better in the month of February.
