Traders in Gigil town have called for help to restart their businesses after fire gutted several commercial and residential buildings on Wednesday night.

The traders said nothing was salvaged during the inferno.

Led by Gildgil business association chairman Charles Karanja the traders said property worth millions was destroyed.

“Traders have been reduced to beggars after the fire broke and razed down business premises in the area. We are urging leaders, well-wishers, county and national governments to help the business people start businesses afresh,” he said.

Karanja said quick action by fire fighters from the army, NYS, county government and residents helped to contain fire.

“Fire was put off 30 minutes after it broke otherwise, the fire could have spread to other structures,” he added.

No causalities were reported.

He said the cause of fire is yet to be established.
