Traders operating in Thika are counting huge losses following heavy rainfall that drowned the area on Tuesday.
The traders accused Kiambu County government of failing to prepare well to tackle floods.
“We pay daily taxes to the county government of Kiambu but the drainage systems in Thika town are poor. Floods swept away our business stalls with products. We are calling on Governor Ferdinand Waititu to come to our rescue and ensure we receive compensation following the huge losses we incurred,” said Jane Kamau a trader.
The traders added that some parts of Thika were impassable due to floods.
“Roads in Kiganjo, Makongeni and Kisii estate were impassable due to the bad state of roads as flooding rain waters got stagnant in the potholes making it hard for the motorists to help traders ferry their products to the market s,” said David Kobia.
Residents of Njomoko area had difficult times because flooding rainwater entered their houses.
The locals called on Kiambu county government to move with speed and improve the state of roads and drainage systems in the region to ensure there is a free flow of flooding rain waters during rainy seasons.
