Kibera traders of the DC market have decried increased illegal electricity connections from the locals in the area which in return is making them to incur losses since they depend on electricity to operate their businesses.
The traders said that they have incurred huge losses since the power went off last Saturday.
“Since Saturday evening till today we have no power here in the market. My Kinyozi has been not in operation since Saturday and this has made me lose a lot of my customers who go to other places to shave and charge phones. I believe there are some greedy residents who pretend to be electricians they connect power illegally causing disconnections,” said Robert Maeba, a barber.
"I operate a milk ATM machine which requires electricity to function. Since Saturday I have not sold milk since there is no power. I am worried my milk will get spoiled and since that day, I have lost many customers who have now gone to buy milk from hawkers and supermarkets,” said Michael Njenga, a milk vendor.
“My fridge of soda has not been in operation since there was a power blackout on Saturday. I am urging KPLC to respond quickly and fix the electricity for the smooth running of our business since we depend on power to operate,” said Mama Pauline Njau, a retail shop owner in the area.
