Traders at the Kibuye open air market in Kisumu now want the county government to spread murram at the facility as a way of controlling mud.
The market is in a bad state following heavy rainfall that continues to pound most areas of the county.
The market located a few metres from the Central Business District (CBD) attracts traders from near and far off counties such as Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Nyamira, Kisii, Homabay and Migori.
“We need murram in this market. There’s a lot of mud especially when it rains. This makes most customers to keep off,” said a trader only identified as Geoffrey.
The traders also want the county government to erect shades at the market to protect them from the rainfall.
“Whenever it rains, we cannot go on with business as usual. Take for example last Sunday, we never did anything because it rained from morning to evening,” lamented Irene Anyango a trader at the market.
“We urge the Kisumu County government to come in and build some sheds for us,” she stated.
