Nakuru town is no longer the cleanest town in East and central Africa it used to be.

It is now a shadow of its formal fame.Today, the town is reeking of urine and stepping on stool as you walk is too normal that no one would see a big deal about it.

The worst areas are along the Lions Garden, Pinkam house and the Railway police station line.

"It is becoming irritating here, when we report in the morning we find them having urinated everywhere. It's annoying!" a matatu operator at the Molo Ace shuttle told this writer.

At the Lions Garden wall opposite the Mburu-Gichua roundabout, this writer spotted several spots where urine is flowing freely after having been turned into a 'urinal'.

Traders accuse matatu operators who work late into the night of 'urning the town into a toilet'.

"There are no county askaris at night, that is why these touts urinate everywhere," a trader said.

A spot check by this writer spotted not only reeking urine but faeces in dark corners.

"Touts and these street families are the cause of all these. And all this happens as (Gvernor Lee) Kinyanjui," George Kimani, a trader, said.

The traders now want the Public Health department to act and make the town reclaim its former glory.
