They said a private developer had grabbed the land and asked the county government to demonstrate concern for their welfare by reclaiming it.

They said the community which has depended on Ong’wano market since 1948 were struggling to find market for their goods because they could not access the market located in the land.

"We demand that the County Assembly in the protection of public interest, facilitate handing over of Ong'wano market for our use for economic and livelihood benefits and activities," they said in a petition which they issued through their MCA Calvin Oraro.

The petition read: "The community does not have a legal market, our women, youth and community need to have our market back and operational."

They said the they lost possession of the market in 2008.
