Traders and businessmen in the country have raised the red flag over increased theft of goods on transit along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway.
The traders now want police to provide security to their cargo that at times is transported to the neighbouring countries, saying they are losing millions of shillings through carjackings.
This came as unknown number of thugs stole a trailer that was transporting food items from Nakuru to Nairobi.
According to a witness Mwangi Kamau, the vehicle had parked at the Mai Mahiu lorry parking bay by the driver who had boarded a room to rest.
“The driver had just gone to his room to sleep when the thugs whose number is not known stole the lorry that was carrying food items like tomato and chilly sauces belonging to a leading canning company in Nakuru,” he said.
Kamau said efforts by the driver and his colleagues to trace the vehicle were futile adding that cases of theft of goods on transit have been on the increase in the area.
A businessman Peter Kinyanjui said it has been a common phenomenon for thugs to carjack drivers along the highway and disappear with goods.
“We want protection from our security forces as these thugs will push us out of businesses, in most cases we find our vehicles empty while at times the thugs steal them altogether”.
Meanwhile there was drama in a Naivasha estate after residents fumbled on a ‘girl’ who was stealing clothes at a residential building.
Upon scrutiny, residents were shocked to find it was a young boy who had donned the clothes of a girl to steal the cloths.
