Business people in Mombasa have rejected the deadline given by the county government for them to repaint their business and residential houses.
Mombasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice chair Rukia Rashid on Monday said the 30-day deadline given by the county government to have all business and residential houses painted a fresh in the Coastal city was too short.
She said the deadline should be extended to at least 90 days.
"The idea is good and we are in full support. But the 30 days are not enough for traders to raise money enough to have all buildings re-painted," she said.
"The deadline should be amended and we should be given 90 days."
Under the directive the Mombasa county government directed all buildings, starting with Old town to be repainted as the devolved unit moves to beautify Kenya's second largest city.
The county said the move was part of larger plan that targets at rejuvenating the tourism industry, Coast regions main income earner.
Under the program all buildings in Mombasa will receive a face lift apart from the Fort Jesus, Government buildings and houses occupied by security personnel such as police stations.
The deadline, if not reviewed, will and at the end of March. All buildings will be painted white and blue.
