Traders in Kibera have threatened to protest due to increased licence levies by Nairobi County government.
Small-scale traders in the slums have said that the current levies they pay as licence fee is high and if the county government is not going to drop the fees they will protest to push for the drop in the levies.
"As business owners, we are facing difficulties in paying high fees of levies. This season there is no business a trader can pay a huge licence fee as charged by the relevant authority," said Jacob Okinyi, a barber.
"We want to pay a licence fee ofSh2,500 per annum and not Sh6,000 wholesale retailers. Kiosk owners and market vendors should pay Sh2,000 and not Sh5,000,"said Maurice Ochieng'.
