Traders at the Molo main market have given the Nakuru County government a seven-day ultimatum to clean up the market before they stop paying levies.
The traders, led by their chairman Charles Marioko, said filth in the market has affected their business calling on the Nakuru county government to move in speed and restore the lost glory of the thriving food market.
He said Molo town is also facing an acute shortage of water during these dry spell adding that residents risk contracting diseases due to poor state of the market.
The traders’ chairman noted that traders have been paying their levies on time adding that they were not receiving services as required.
He said in 2012/13 budgets the county government allocated money to purchase a fifty acre piece of land for a new dumpsite in Molo Township but no land was bought.
Marioko added that traders were concerned on the rise of filth causing ailment saying all business premises should observe high standards of hygiene.
“We are asking the Nakuru county government to buy refuse collection truck for use in Molo and also call upon resident to avoid littering the town,” he said.
