Traders in Manga trading centre now want the county government to construct public toilets in the market.
The market has been operating with one privately owned toilet with residents paying Sh10 to use the facility.
On Thursday, residents led market Chairman Alfonse Omache said traders may be compelled to halt remittances of taxes unless the county governments puts up toilets at the market.
“We are surviving on one toilet and that is just privately owned," Omache said.
"It is very unfortunate and we demand that the county government rectifies the situation. We have been paying taxes and we expect the same favour from the county government."
According to residents, many traders and customers are forced to go for calls of nature in nearby areas, making the region vulnerable to attacks by disease.
“You ca not imagine that some of us are using neighbouring bushes and feeder roads to relive ourselves," he added.
"Because we are very concerned with the situation, it will be important that a quick action is taken by the department of public health."
He said the existing private toilet could no longer sustain the population of residents coming to the market.
“Our population is no longer small. We are receiving visitors from neighbouring regions who are coming to purchase commodities. The existing facility is not enough,” said the market traders association's Treasurer Vane Gechengi.
