Residents of Njoro have urged the Nakuru County Government to relocate the dumpsite located in Njoro Market.
According to Paul Karanja, a vendor at the market, the dumpsite is a health hazard and a definite time bomb if not dealt with in time.
“It is very unfair for the county government to be collecting taxes and yet the services that are required by those paying the taxes are not given,” Karanja said.
Director of environment in Nakuru County Muriithi Kiogora told this writer that the casual labourers who were employed by the county government withdrew their services due to political reasons.
“We are following the matter and if this issue is not dealt with soon, we will be forced to close this market. We are aware that the casual labourers who were responsible for its cleanliness no longer do so,” Muriithi said,
Steve Karanja who is also a vendor in the market said that the dumpsite stinks so much that it even scares away buyers.
“We no longer sell goods as we used to do since most customers do not enter the market because of the smell that comes from the dumpsite,” Karanja said.
They urged the county government to ensure that the dumpsite is removed from the market.
