Speaking in Kisumu Hotel on Thursday during a workshop dubbed, market places conference, County Deputy Director for Environment, Belinda Nyakinya, said that they are planning to rehabilitate Jubilee, Kibuye and Otonglo markets.

Nyakinya urged the Kisumu County Government to work closely with civil society, research scholar and traders and come up with various ideas for a modern market.

"We want to undertake this project as a team. We therefore want a strong researcher from academia, government policy, civil society and the community to be involved,” said Nyakinya.

She added that already they have settled on consultant design of the market, but before desining he should have consultative design with traders.

Deputy director for environment suggested that the markets can have sources of water for daily running of the market affairs.

"We can harvest water during the rainy season. That way we can have alternative source of water other than the KIWASCO piped water," said Nyakinya.

She said that the designer can install solar power as an alternative power aside from the normal grid.
