The Kisumu County government recently launched a street lighting project aimed at boosting business and security in the county.

County Executive Committee member for Tourism, Trade and Commerce Rose Kisia challenged the business community to take advantage of the project to make money.

Speaking to the press at the county headquarters on Thursday, Ms Kisia said the county government has erected flood lights in all market places and major Jua Kali areas within the county.

She said the move aims at enabling the business community to work for extended hours hence boosting the county's economy.

"Money has to circulate till late hours for Kisumu's economy to grow," she said.

That is why we are challenging those with businesses at the county's markets and the town's Jua Kali to work for longer hours."

Kisumu Business Coalition Chairman Israel Agina hailed the move by the county government to erect flood lights in the county's major business areas.

Agina said it was now time for businesses to grow and profits realised in the county.

"As the business community, the economy of Kisumu depends on us," he said.

It is therefore important to reduce the high level of idleness among the youth."

Agina was speaking to this writer at Kisumu Hotel on Thursday.
