Traders at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii County want the county government to repair the drainage infrastructure in the area urgently to avert a possible loss of property as a result of floods.
After days of torrential rains pounding the market traders said that some of them have been displaced from their normal trading zones, roads damaged and property destroyed.
Speaking at the market on Thursday, Victor Onchwari a trader at the strongly accused Kisii county of laxity despite the fact that they have been aware of the situation on the ground.
Onchwari questioned why the county government would not set aside money for the exercise.
“We are not happy at all, business is going down each day as we can’t sell due to the sewerage system that is hampering us from doing so,” he added.
Another trader Eliza Ondae said their efforts to raise their grievances to the county government have allegedly hit a snag and expressed concern that they continue to wallow in a disaster that the county government can prevent.
“Since the rains began, the gravity of loss is deepening and the county government has not provided humanitarian aid to the victims of the floods," she said.
The residents now want the county government to develop and table before them an elaborate disaster management plan to ward off further undue suffering.
