Mawanga Teachers Business Owners Association secretary general Wycliffe Onserio said that business operators could lose their business permits and profits if they are not wary of the conmen.

The official said that some smooth-operating people posing as employees of the county government revenue collection department were soliciting money from unsuspecting business operators, promising to protect them from paying tax in future.

He added that some of the con people issue fake business permits and revenue collection receipts. He said the con people carry with them fake identification cards and documents belonging to the county government and could be working hand in hand with some county government staff.

“We are telling members of our association to be wary of these crooks. We advise them to pay tax as normal and avoid risking cancellation of their permits,’’ said Onserio.
