The traders most of who are small-scale said the move was timely and would enable them to get the vital document and avoid penalties.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Monday, some of the traders said they had been looking for the licenses for several weeks now but have not been able to get it due to the long queues being witnessed at the county headquarter in Eldoret town.

“I thank the county for giving us another opportunity to get the licenses as some of us have queued for a long time and up to now we have not managed to get it,” said Stanley Too who owns a restaurant in Eldoret town.

“With the extension of the dateline we are happy that we will get enough time to get the licenses and avoid the 50 peent penalty,” he added.

A public notice signed by the Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Trade Dr. Emily Kogos had indicated that the dateline for traders to get licenses for 2018 had been extended by 14 days to April 16 April.

This follows an expiry of an earlier dateline on April 3.

The Cec warned that businesses that will not renew their licenses within the specified time would be subjected to a 50 percent penalty.
