Nelson Waihenya, who is in charge of Nakuru operations said this on Sunday during the Annual General Meeting of Nakuru Tuktuk Taxi operators Association that was held at Nakuru town.

Waihenya observed that corrupt traffic police officers who solicit for bribes from matatu operators are to blame for many accidents that occur on roads in the country.

He at the same time blamed matatu owners for failing to tame their employees, who continuously collude with corrupt traffic police officers to violate traffic rules.

According to the roads safety boss, matatu owners, who fail to acquire road and insurance licenses for their vehicles motivate corruption behavours among traffic police officers and matatu crews.

He warned perpetrators that the government was zeroing in to arrest the notorious culture, in order to reclaim sanity on roads and develop the transport subsector.

“The government has taken serous steps to reclaim sanity on our roads. Corrupt traffic police officers are being arrested and prosecuted while matatu crews who are flouting road safety measures are also facing the law,” said Waihenya.

“We will not relent on this mission aimed at taming corrupt traffic police officers and matatu crews who collude to increase insecurity on our roads,” he added

At the same time, Waihenya commended members of the public and law abiding matatu crew members for their continued support and involvement in the fight against corruption involving traffic police and some matatu crews.
