Traffic along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway was on Wednesday packed as city dwellers returned to Nairobi.

Motorists were bumper to bumper driving at 20km/h.

The most affected areas were Gilgil and from Flyover.

"I left Nakuru and have spent close to three hours. And I am yet to get anywhere close to Nairobi, it's bad here," George Nderitu said.

Many people had travelled to the rural areas for the Christmas festivities and started flocking back to Nairobi.

Those using public means met the brunt of hiked fares.

Matatus charged Sh800 from Nakuru to Nairobi which normally costs Sh300.
