Speaking in his office, Thika West Traffic commandant Benjamin Kiprono has issued a warning to traffic police officers who take bribes and sleep on their jobs leading to unnecessary accidents that could be avoided.

Kiprono said that he has put strategies to tame traffic officers who receive bribes from motorists from the area instead of taking them to courts.

“Those police officers who receive bribes from drivers and fail to take them to the authority. I want to tell them that their days are numbered,” said Kiprono.

He disclosed that he has assigned some officers without uniforms to be on roads to tame corruption in the area.

“I have my officers who are spying on corrupt traffic officers and if found, they will be dealt with accordingly and taken to court,” warned Kiprono adding that corruption has been a pain in the neck and measures to eradicate it should be well placed by every Kenyan.

The traffic boss also said that in partnership with Thika West OCPD Shadrack Maithya, they are probing criminals who impersonate traffic officers and received bribe from motorists adding that the act is a crime of the highest level.

Kiprono said that the number of impersonation has gradually increased citing the incident where a middle-aged woman was arraigned in court for impersonation a traffic police officer in Thika town.
