Matatu Owners Association chairman Simon Kimutai has revealed that Public Service Vehicles are losing Sh3 billion annually as bribes to corrupt traffic police officers.
Consequently, Kimutai has called for a reduction of road blocks as a means of curbing the vice.
“There are too many traffic officers on the roads that do not do anything other than extort from PSV drivers. There is a need to reduce the officers as they are not adding any value nor promoting road safety,” Kimutai said.
Kimutai was speaking at a meeting of matatu owners, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, National Police Service and National Transport and Safety Authority.
The three parties agreed to work together in promoting road safety.
