This followed an earlier withdrawal of Mv Kwale and Mv Likoni that left Mv Nyayo and Mv Kilindini as the only vessels connecting both ends.

Officials say Mv Likoni later developed problems on Friday rendering it unusable while Mv Nyayo developed problems with its electronic system causing the management to withdraw both vessels.

"Mv Likoni is currently undergoing maintenance and is thus out of service," said Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director Bakari Gowa in a statement.

On Friday, Kenya Ferry Services PR officer Francis Mugomati revealed that Mv Kwale was presently being serviced after it had developed a similar electronic problem while Mv Harambee was undergoing structural repairs at the African Marine and General Engineering Company Limited shipyard.
