Police in Boka, Tana River County shot and killed a young man, after he quarreled with his father over a camel.
Trouble started when he tried to prevent his father, Abdi Gafo, from selling their remaining one camel to raise money so as to buy cows.
The feud between father and son saw the father rush to Boka police station to seek help from the police officers.
"The father called the police to arrest his son. He complained that the had stolen his camel at a local market," said Tana River County Commander Patrick Okeri.
However things changed after the young man allegedly started pelting stones at the officers at the Kora National Reserve where they tracked him.
"Upon seeing his father with police officers, the young man started pelting them with stones injuring some of the officers. He had attracted the sympathy of several youth who also started pelting the officers with stones," said Okeri.
However, he said the young man was shot dead after he started running towards the officers with a dagger.
"Our officer was on the ground, hit on the eye and the head. His colleagues were firing in the air so that they could rescue him from the angry youth who did not seem scared. But when they saw the young man charge towards the police with a dagger, they shot him."
The son's father has now blamed the officers, saying they used excessive force against his son.
"They shot him several times in the body and once in the head," said Gafo.
The family recorded a statement at the Madogo police station with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) seeking justice for the son.
