A Maseno University student on Sunday evening died following a grisly road accident.
The student was hit from the back by an over speeding trailer trying to overtake another when he was walking along the road at River Ridge in Maseno killing him on the spot.
Eyewitness said that the driver had lost the control of the heavy vehicle while overtaking a Matatu, realising he had killed the student he sped off.
The student identified as George Waweru was a fourth year student pursuing bachelors in Arts and design in Maseno University Main Campus.
The students demonstrated following the occurrences giving ultimatums for the arrest of the driver or else they would take action themselves.
They said it was now becoming a trend where reckless drivers hit students and run away citing the latest incident to the beginning of this semester where a university boy was hit late night.
“I have lost a great friend. I would like to pass my condolences and that of the students’ union to family, friends and Maseno University fraternity. May his soul rest in peace,”SOMU Secretary General, Linus Sang said.
Maseno OCS K. Langat confirmed the accident and promised the rowdy students that he was going to get hold of the perpetrators in less than three days.
The students through their student leader Linus Sang gave the institution 24 hours to construct a speed bump along the busy Kisumu-Busia Road.
