Operation Linda Boni is yet to solve the problem of terror attacks in Lamu County, Lamu West MP Stanley Muthama has said. Speaking in Lamu on Sunday, the lawmaker called upon the government to train residents and provide them with guns to fight back when attacked by the suspected al-Shabaab militants.Muthama said the state of security in the region has been a matter of concern, adding that the residents can protect themselves against any form of attack if trained and equipped. He also questioned why certain crime hotspots have not been guarded.“I can’t understand why the government is reluctant to give guns to our youth. After all, they are so many. It’s unfortunate that a place like Hindi, where insecurity has been an issue for long, only has 30 guns all of which belong to the KPR,” said Muthama, as quoted by Baraka FM.“Time has come for our people to receive military training and be given guns to guard themselves,” he added. A week ago, Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa put KDF soldiers on the spot, accusing them of laxity in the fight against terrorism.
