Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of majority Josephat Lowoi has asked the county government to offer training to youths on cooperatives before giving them loans.
The Karuna/Mibeki MCA said youths lack the know how on handling and use the funds."I want to call upon the county government led by governor Mandago to ensure that youths are trained before they access loans putting in mind that they will pay back with an interest," Lowoi said in Eldoret town, Saturday."It's sad that once the youths are given the funds they use it for luxurious purposes instead of investing it in income generating projects and that's why youths don't develop," he added. The MCA, however, urged youths to join cooperatives for them to be empowered financially since they will be able to access loans."Youths should refrain from the mindset that cooperatives are meant for the old but instead join for them to access county funds which are given to cooperatives at an interest 5 percent," noted Lowoi."When you get the first money in your business don't use it for luxurious purposes instead use the amount to get more money. Business money reinvest in business," he added.
