Few days after Principal Secretary in the State Department of Public Works, Mariam El Maawy, was abducted by Al Shabaab militants in Lamu, Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Dr James Macharia, has raisde his voice.

Macharia linked the abduction of his PS, to politics, saying the attack was politically, instigated.

According to him, El Maawy was abducted, following planned moves by some politicians, to discredit President Uhuru Kenyatta's security efforts, especially in the volatile Lamu County.

Speaking at Kiriaini town in Mathioya Constituency after he addressed a leader’s forum on Jubilee government achievements, Macharia condemned the incident, and warned politiians with such intentions, to desist, since it involves human lives.

He however did not mention who could be behind the incident.

The July 13 incident saw El Maawy rescued by special KDF forces, from the hands of terrorists in Lamu,.

She was among six people abducted by Al Shabaab militants at Milihoi on Lamu-Mpeketoni highway after attending a LAPSSET event.

El Maawy was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment., in an operation that saw three police officers killed and several others injured.Macharia who spoke alongside Devolution PS Irungu Nyakeera, Murang'a County Commissioner Murang’a John Elung’ata, among other leaders, further assured Kenyans that El Maawy was still admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital and was out of danger.
