Transport was temporarily paralysed on Thursday after teachers and pupils of Victoria primary school in Kisumu County took to the streets to protest against grabbing of the institution’s 18 acre land at Dago area.
The teachers and students marched peacefully to the Kisumu lands office where they lodged their complaints.
According to one of the teachers, the land was being encroached by private developers some of whom are from the lands office.
“A top official at the lands office has helped grabbers to grab the school’s land. We want the officer to resign and a legal action taken against him.
“We want our land back. Cartels should be arrested and taken to court,” the teacher said.
Leaders who addressed the teachers and students noted that the issue had been recorded and will be acted upon.
Kisumu deputy county commissioner Tom Majeneri said the matter will be investigated and legal action taken against those found guilty.
