North Mugirango MP Charles Geni believes Deputy President William Ruto's tough stand on the IEBC is ‘injuring’ his 2022 presidential bid since he ‘dearly’ needs Cord leader Raila Odinga to win the election.

Mr Ruto has been at logger heads with Raila over the IEBC by openly dismissing the opposition’s dialogue demands to resolve the impasse surrounding commission.

And now Mr Geni wants Ruto to soften his hard line stance and pave way for dialogue or ‘thwart’ his 2022 presidential ambitions.

“Honestly, I want to say DP Ruto is injuring his 2022 presidential bid if he continues to rebuke the opposition over the IEBC standoff. The President agreed to meet us but Ruto openly showed us how he doesn’t want to embrace dialogue yet he dearly needs Odinga in 2022,” Geni claimed.

“The DP knows 2017 will be perhaps be the last time Raila is running for the top seat whether he wins it or not, and I think he should openly embrace dialogue over the electoral body or thwart his presidential ambitions. Even remaining mum on the matter will be a boost for him,” he added during an interview at Kisii sports club on Monday.

According to Geni, the Central region is unlikely to support Ruto in 2022 citing history as his point of reference.

“History has never lied and we all know voting demographics of central Kenya because they will always vote for one of their own. Ruto cannot bank on them and can only stay neutral on the IEBC matter because he dearly needs Raila by that time,” he added.
